Ah, RV Boondocking!!
Typical Quartzsite, Arizona Sunset!
Can just barely see our "neighbor" - about 100 yards to our West!
RV Boondocking isn't for everyone, by any means! However, it sure can
be a great way to see extraordinary sites that you'd see only in a
brochure! This is a great way to enjoy frugal living as well as cheap living - all in the same day!! It typically will not be in a RV Park.
Boondocking is like growing up and being on your own. It doesn't
have to be in a remote part of the world - but, it will be without any
utility hookups, for sure.
Speaking about "growing up", how many of us had or wish we had one of those old VW Camper's?
Well, here's your chance!
It was featured in a Jan Issue of RVTravel.com email Newsletter!
It is available from Amazon. It sure would make a great gift hint to the grandkids - course, you may have to specify that you want to build it yourself.
However, be prepared - it has 1,332 pieces!! Perhaps it would be better to let the grandkids build it, after all!?!!?
Pretty cool interior of the Lego VW Camper, huh!?!
In case that wasn't enough to get your curiosity going - here's an awesome "time-lapse" build of one!!!!!
Admittedly, many RV'ers just don't feel comfortable boondocking. they only feel happy being in a park with others and hookup up to "earth" (utilities).
Some actually have to be hooked up to electric. For an example, they must run AC for a person that needs it or have a health issue that requires constant electricity. Others will be concerned for their safety and refuse to consider "boondocking".
Good basic rule to follow, if you do go off and find a remote spot or campsite - look for signs of partying or lots of broken bottles. Odds are, you DON'T want that site!
RV Living as a "Boondocker" doesn't mean you are 100 miles off into the desert or so removed from anyone that you'd never see another human.
It simply means you are without utilities supplied by a campground.
If you've never over-nighted without utilities, try a night in a Wal-Mart Parking Lot. Or try a campground but DO NOT hookup anything - that's a pretty safe option to try before venturing off the highways!
RV Solar and going green will sure help make RV Boondocking easier. When you are spending time away from a campground in your RV, RV Solar energy, extra water or good water/waste management is critical.
The whole idea behind RV boondocking is to be "away from it all" and seeing things and places that just plain old recharge your personal batteries!
So many of us never take the time to go outside the box - we are always within our little safety zone.
That's OK - but, it can sure be awesome to see that beautiful sunrise or sunset over a lake or mountaintop with no buildings to hamper your view!
We never would've gotten that incredible sunset picture above, unless we were boondocking in Quartzsite!

A great idea is Harvest Hosts. It started in Europe years ago.
Seems Vineyards and Farmers enjoy some overnight RV'ers on their property - for Free!! Here, in the US, a couple started the same idea and have grown the concept to include Farms and Vineyards all over North America!
Just imagine staying at a nice Vineyard for the night, touring their store and products (perhaps a sample - or two?) and paying only a $30 Annual Fee for that privilege!
Yes, just a $30 a year Fee to Harvest Hosts and you stay on a member Vineyard or Farm for Free!!
Best of all, there are plenty to chose from all over North America!!
Day's End Directory is a great source for RV Boondocking locations throughout the US.
Escapee Club Members contribute boondocking sites they find during their travels to this website - and have been for over 20 years! How great is that!
As a result, the info is excellent and updated by Escapee members, as they travel.
Read all about the Escapees Association on our RV Associations Page . There is a nominal $10 Fee for joining the Day's End Website - for a great source of info. It is available to active Escapee Members only.
However, since Escapees is such a great organization and Association, why wouldn't you be, anyway ?!
